Ms. Slovakia passed this movie trailer on to me for the film "Bathory" (a Czech film by Juraj Jakubisko) which is based on the life of an infamous mass murderer in Hungary in the 1500's. The trailer looks really interesting so I'm hoping to check it out.
To be honest, I knew nothing of Elizabeth Bathory (Báthory Erzsébet in Hungarian , Alžbeta Bátoriová in Slovak, Alžběta Báthoryová in Czech, or Elżbieta Batory in Polish) before this clip was passed on to me but in doing a bit of research found that there seems to be conflicting stories on the evil she was convicted of committing. I did find the line on the Imdb site that suggested that she was really just a "modern Renaissance woman who ultimately fell victim to mens aspirations for power and wealth". It's not often that we actually hear in detail about women who murder to this degree so I wonder whether she actually was the victim or not. I know it's a little morbid but I do have a fascination with these kinds of gothic "legends".
Has anyone out there heard of this film? What about my readers in Hungary?
I'd be interested to hear from my readers (and I am sure that my friend "E" who told me that I should actually be soliciting more comments on this blog would too). So I'd like to ask you to share any comments you may have...

Hi Lola,
I haven't heard about the film, and actually I haven't heard about her neither. However, when I checked her on the web, I found much about her life. It seems to me that the stories about her were made up because of political and probably religious reasons. These were written down 150 years after her death. But her character seems to appear is numerous films and other pieces of art, so at least her name won't be forgotten. If I can, I'll watch the movie.
